The Kenyase Police Command has promised to hunt down suspected thieves in connection with the Antoa Nyamaa deity’s golden ornaments.
It was reported that thieves broke into the powerful strong room of the deity at Kwabre East district in the Ashanti Region and made away with valuable traditional items worth millions of Ghana cedis.
Speaking to Ultimate news, the Kenyase District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Aduboahen explained that six caretakers of the deity who were arrested have been granted police enquiry bail.
‘I can assure you, we are doing our best to bring the perpetrators to book. Investigation is not limited to them alone; we have to broaden our horizon to look for information. We are doing our best, this call for the establishment and inauguration of community volunteers groups to assist the police to combat some of these crimes,’ he assured.
DSP Aduboahen recalled that on November 17, 2015, the police received a complaint from Antoa elders over their missing ornaments and other valuable items.
‘November 17, the Police received a complaint from the Antoa elders, that the strong room has been broken into and some golden ornaments taking away by thieves. We begun our investigations and we have arrested six people. Not because we found any items on them, but the area they live is closer to the strong room, and they are the only people who occupy the place. So the suspicion is that they might have collaborated with the robbers. They have been very corporative, anytime we need them they come over,’ he said.
The Kenyase District Police Commander urged the public to secure their properties at all times, calling on the general public to give information relating to the matter.
‘The safety first begins with our own personal responsibility, we have to secure ourselves. God will also assist us and the police will compliment, there is a God who cares for all of us. Though, it is the responsibility of the police to protect the public, we have our personal security; where we have to ensure that our properties are well secured. We need complimentary effort from everybody to ensure that the society we live in is very safe,’ he appealed.
