Barcelona star Lionel Messi and his father Jorge have been sentenced to 21 months for tax evasion. The case involves three counts of tax fraud, having defrauded Spanish authorities of €4.1m between 2007 and 2009. Despite the sentence, both are set to avoid jail due to Spanish law that allows sentences under two years to be served on probation. Lionel has been fined €2 million, and Jorge €1.5 million. The sentence can be appealed through the Spanish supreme court.
