Match report for the Ghana Premier League game between Tema Youth and Hearts of Oak.
Tema Youth defeated Hearts of Oak 2-1 on match day seven of the 2017 Ghana Premier League at the Tema Park on Wednesday.
The Harbour Boys took the lead through Gabriel Leveh in the first half, Thomas Abbey pulled even for the away side’s in the second half, But Tema Youth restored their lead courtesy Fatau Yusif.
Tema Youth started the game brightly and with just three minutes into the game the home side opened the scoring through Gabriel Leveh.
Hearts of Oak pushed forward as Thomas Abbey saw plenty of the ball but his final crosses were cleared by the home side’s back line.
On 12 minutes Leveh raced into Hearts of Oak defense but Ben Mensah parried his shot away.
The Phobians pushed Tema Youth back with persistent possession, but they failed to unlock the home side’s defense. Moment later Leveh who has been tormenting the Phobians back line had another opportunity but he shot wide.
On 36 minutes Vincent Atingah brought out the best in Stephen Kwaku – the diminutive shot stopper fisted out Atingah’s direct free-kick.
The away side seized control of the midfield and they dominated the home side but getting the ball behind Tema Youth’s back four was problematic for Frank Nuttall’s side.
With five minutes to half time, Tema Youth relied on counter-attack and they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of Hearts of Oak’s penalty box, but Joseph Paintsil shot wide.
Two minutes from the recess, Hearts of Oak caught Tema Youth cold and they grabbed the equalizer through Thomas Abbey.
The Phobians pushed forward for the second goal but Cosmos Dauda let his team down as he failed to get past the home side’s defense.
Tema Youth then regrouped, and began to dictate the pace of the game, Inusah Musah at the heart of Hearts of Oak defense curtailed the surging runs of the home side’s attackers.
The home side kept the pressure and on 74minute Fatau Yusif restored Tema Youth’s lead after Ben Mensah failed to handle Joseph Painstil’s shot on the edge of the box.
Tema Youth after taking the lead for the second time put a lot of bodies behind the ball and the Phobians pelted them with series of attacks.
Despite late pressure from the away side, the home side stood to the test to defend their lead.
