Abraham Attah thanking me is refreshing and encouraging, says Kennedy Agyapong

Kennedy Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central in the Central region has lauded ‘Beasts of No Nation’ star Abraham Attah’s gesture of showing gratitude to him.

The who MP paid the school fees of Abraham Attah at one point said, “what the guy has done is so marvellous. Looking at the assistance I give to people, his is peanut, just a little so for this young man to remember me and come back to say thank you, it’s refreshing and encouraging”.

The Independent Spirit Award winner paid a courtesy call on the MP at his residence at Assin Fosu earlier in the week to show gratitude for contributing to his education when Kennedy Agyapong discovered saw him selling at the toll booth in Ashaiman some years back.

Abraham Attah gained public attention in 2015 after his role as ‘Agu’ in ‘Beasts of No Nation’. He went ahead to win several awards including Marcello Mastroianni’s Best Young Actor Award at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.

In an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz with KMJ, the MP said he didn’t want to bask in the young actor’s glory for fear that people would say he is a braggart.

“I watched excerpts of his movie in America and was like wow. No matter where you were born if you’re giving the opportunity, you will excel,” he proudly added.

The MP discovered young Abraham at the Ashaiman tollbooth selling some items and asked him why he was not in school. Abraham told him although he wanted to, he parents could not afford it.

“I said, go and tell your parents that I want to pay the school fees for you so he went. The next morning when I got there he was there and I asked him ‘what did your parents say?’ he said, ‘they are happy with it’, so I gave him money to go and buy school uniform and for school fees”.

The businessman said he was surprised when Abraham Attah asked to see him.

Kennedy Agyapong, who says he has been doing a lot of benevolent deeds for people, was surprised when Abraham asked to see him after becoming a star, revealing the young actor was one of those who returned to thanked him for assisting him.

“I have helped bankers, engineers, medical doctors and none of them has even come back to say thank you to me except one boy I took care of at Cape Vas who later won a US lottery and is living in America,” he reiterated.

Commenting on the entertainment industry, he said “Ghanaian artistes are doing great songs. I visited Minnesota and a DJ there kept playing Ghanaian songs back to back for three hours but the problem is with their video clips. They should add a little art, a little style, it should be flashy.”

He also revealed that he loves Bisa Kdei’s ‘Brother Brother’ song but the video for the song is terrible.
